A full description of the University’s graduation requirements can be found in the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements .
Total Units: 120*
*General Education, MI, and Upper-division Writing courses can be double counted with major requirements. These courses include SPAN 1B , SPAN 2A , SPAN 2B , SPAN 3 , SPAN 4A , and/or SPAN 4B (Area C1 and third course in Area C1/Area C2). See advisor for details.
Advising Notes
- CR/NC grading is not permitted for courses in the Spanish major except for those taken Credit by Examination.
- Students must receive a minimum grade of C in each upper-division course used toward the Spanish major.
- A maximum of two courses from one department may be used simultaneously to satisfy the General Education requirement and the major requirements. If the Spanish major is the secondary major in a double major (see double major), this limitation does not apply. Consult a faculty advisor for additional details.
- Spanish majors who have studied Spanish in high school or who by culture or experience can speak Spanish at a certain level of proficiency must consult with a Spanish advisor to determine which lower-division courses, if any, may be waived. (Also see Credit Allowance in Foreign Language.) Spanish majors who are eligible to enroll immediately in SPAN 1B , SPAN 2A , SPAN 2B , SPAN 3 , or SPAN 5 are not required to make up the lower-division units waived. Waiver of required units for the major does not reduce the total number of units required for the awarding of the bachelor’s degree. All Spanish majors are required to take SPAN 4A and SPAN 4B as prerequisites to upper-division Spanish courses. These prerequisites can be challenged through Credit by Examination.
