Master of Public Health Degree Program Requirements

The Master of Public Health Program (MPH) at Fresno State is a full-time two-year online program accredited by the Council of Education for Public Health.

The MPH program is designed to prepare students in the broad area of public health with an emphasis in health promotion and disease prevention. Course requirements include a field experience and a culminating experience. The MPH program is not classified as a STEM program.

Admissions

In addition to meeting University entry requirements, applicants must demonstrate academic ability and preparation. Furthermore, applicants need to submit (a) three professional letters of recommendation and (b) a statement of intent.

Students admitted to the program are assigned a faculty advisor, and, under the advisor’s direction, follow a pattern of study designed to be completed in two years. Students are admitted using a cohort format with only fall semester admissions. If a student is admitted and is unable to start the program, they will have to reapply for admission to another term.

Graduate-Level Writing Competence

The university requires that students have graduate-level writing abilities before being advanced to candidacy for the master’s degree. Students must demonstrate these abilities by passing the writing requirements in PH 210 . Check the program’s website for the most current copy of the policy.

Curriculum

The Master of Public Health program at Fresno State has a single track in health promotion which prepares public health professionals to fulfill leadership roles in the development, promotion, application, and evaluations of educational and behavioral approaches to health.

The program consists of 42 units including:

Culminating Experience (4 units)


A culminating experience is required of all Fresno State students earning master’s degrees. This requirement is met by either completing:

(1) a thesis, or
(2) a project, or
(3) a comprehensive exam plus 4 units of PH 297 

Students will enroll in one of the courses below for 2 units for two consecutive semesters for a total of 4 units:
