- Lower-division courses should be taken before upper-division courses.
- Upper-division requirements should be taken before upper-division electives.
- CRIM 2 is a prerequisite for many CRIM and FBS courses, including: CRIM 113 and FBS 114 , FBS 154 , FBS 155 , FBS 156 , FBS 157 , FBS 158 , FBS 159T , FBS 160 , and FBS 161 .
- CR/NC grading not permitted in major, with the exceptions of CRIM 1 , CRIM 108 , and CRIM 180I .
- CRIM 50 should be taken before CRIM 170 . The CRIM 50 requirement may also be met by completing PSYCH 42 , PH 92 , MATH 11 , DS 73 , or any equivalent statistics course form another department, university, or community college.
- CRIM 170 should be taken during the junior year.
- Freshmen and transfer students majoring in Criminology or FBS are expected to take CRIM 1 no later than their second semester. CRIM 1 is a prerequisite for CRIM 180I .
- There are no substitute courses for most of the FBS courses, including FBS 154 and FBS 158 . On occasion a substitute course for FBS 155 may be available (e.g., from the Biology or Psychology Department) and must be pre-approved by the FBS Major Coordinator as a satisfactory substitute. Students need to plan their course schedules with this in mind.
- Students who wish to be considered for the Criminology Honors Program are advised not to take CRIM 100 or CRIM 170 prior to application to the Honors Program, as there are honors versions of these courses. - From Fall 2019, students wishing to change their major to Criminology or Forensic Behavioral Sciences will need to have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50.

- Because of its importance for all Criminology and FBS majors, CRIM 1 should be taken as early as possible.
- Completion of GE Foundation and Breadth requirements are prerequisites to enrolling in this Upper-division GE (Integration) course.
- FBS students may apply a maximum of 3 units of credit for CRIM 142 , CRIM 143 , CRIM 144 , or CRIM 145 (Mock Trial) toward the General Electives Cluster requirements.
- FBS students may apply a maximum of 3 units of credit for any combinationof CRIM 108 or CRIM 180I toward the General Elective Cluster requirements.
- FBS students must take FBS 114 as a prerequisite or co-requisite for CRIM180I.
- FBS students may apply a maximum of one psychology class toward theGeneral Electives Cluster requirements.
