Program Description. The Single Subject Credential authorizes the credential holder to teach in the subject area specified on the credential in departmentalized classrooms commonly found at middle schools, high schools, and adult educational settings. The Kremen School of Education and Human Development offers the Preliminary Single Subject Credential in cooperation with various academic subject matter area departments. The cooperating departments are responsible for developing subject matter competency; the Kremen School of Education and Human Development is primarily responsible for developing professional education competency.

The teacher credential program is overseen by the Single Subject Coordinator and the Academic Subject Matter Area Coordinators/Advisors. The Single Subject Coordinator provides general advisement for Single Subject Credential Candidates and supports the placement of “initial” student teachers. The Academic Subject Matter Area Coordinators/advisors provide academic advisement for credential candidates majoring in their respective departments, teach the methods courses in their subject fields, assign and supervise “final” student teachers, and act as official liaisons between the subject matter departments and the Single Subject Coordinator.
Students will earn their Preliminary Teaching credentials through the Kremen School of Education and Human Development.

A Preliminary Single Subject Credential provides authorization to teach a specified subject in a departmentalized classroom for a maximum period of five years. Requirements for completing the Professional (Clear) Single SubjectCredential will be provided by the employing school district.
