Bachelor of Science Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology - Physical Education Option, B.S. has a curricular emphasis in pedagogy designed for students with professional goals in teaching and coaching. Completion of this degree provides access to teaching credential programs and teaching careers in grades K-12.

The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology - Physical Education Option, B.S. offers coursework and practical experiences in teaching and coaching, which conform to all California state standards and fully prepare students for admission into teaching credential programs. After completing the degree, students can pursue a single subject teaching credential. Graduates are highly effective and successful physical educators in K-12 schools throughout the Central Valley and beyond.

* General Education, Additional University Graduation Requirements, and Upper-division Writing courses can be double counted with major requirements. See advisor for details.

Advising Notes


  1. Students majoring in the Physical Education option may count a maximum of 12 units of activity courses (ATHL, KAC, DANCE) toward the 120 units required for a bachelor’s degree. Repeat credit towards the Physical Education option is not allowed in any of these activity courses.
  2. The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology - Physical Education option complies with university policy regarding the re-taking of courses. Physical Education students who fail a course (D or F) in the major curriculum may retake the class for a second time. If they earn a failing grade (D or F) a second time, they will not be allowed to repeat the course for a third time.
  3. Students in the PETE must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (GPA) in all physical education courses). If the student falls below 3.0 GPA in the PETE for two consecutive semesters, he/she will be automatically disqualified.
  4. PETE majors are required to take KAC 4 KAC 6 , or KAC 103  (Kinesiology Activity Course) as the activity component with KINES 32 . Students are strongly encouraged to take KAC 4  if they are not already proficient in all swim strokes. 
  5. Kinesiology Activity Course KAC 31 - Elementary Gymnastics  is strongly recommended.
  6. Students are required to maintain current certification for Adult/Child CPR and First Aid.
  7. BIOL 33  OR BIOL 67A  and BIOL 67B  or equivalent courses may be substituted for KINES 35.
