Alcohol/Drug Studies, Certificate of Special Study

The Department of Public Health

A certificate of special study is awarded to those students who successfully complete a minimum of 12 units of interdisciplinary academic coursework in the area of alcohol and drug abuse. Students seeking the certificate:

must have completed two years of college or two years of experience related to the field of alcohol/drug abuse, and
must be regularly enrolled in the university.

All coursework must be taken for a letter grade and completed with a grade of C or better in each of the 6 required units and the 6 units of electives. The following list includes the course requirements for the certificate:

PH 110 - Drugs, Society, and Health Units: 3
PH 111 - Alcohol and Alcoholism Units: 3

Electives (6 units)

Select 6 units from:

CRIM 141 - Alcohol, Drugs, and Criminality Units: 3
COUN 176 - Counseling and Mental Health Units: 3
PSYCH 175 - Family Counseling Units: 3
SWRK 129 - Treatment of Chemical Dependency Units: 3
WGSS 115 - Women, Children & Alcohol Units: 1
