P12 Administration Program: Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC) with M.A. Educational Leadership and Administration and Internship Option

The P12 Administration Program is an integrated degree and credential program for students pursuing a California Preliminary Administrative Services Credential combined with a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration with at least 3.5 years of successful experience as a P12 educator at the time of enrollment. The integrated credential with master’s degree program is a 3-semester, 30-unit program of study. For students who have previously earned a master’s degree and are pursuing the credential-only option, the preparation program for a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC) is a 3-semester, 22-semester unit program. For those students with 5 years of experience and an offer of employment in an administrative role, an internship option is available. Those recommended for the Internship Option will require and additional 3-units per semester for University Coach Internship support and supervision.

Graduates earning the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential are authorized to serve in administrative roles in California P12 public schools, such as principal, vice-principal, program director, and any related administrative assignment at all school levels to develop, coordinate, and assess instructional programs as well as manage budgets and supervise student support services. An individual must hold an Administrative Services Credential to provide the following services in grades preschool, K-12 and adults:

  • Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of instructional services at the school site level.
  • Evaluate of certificated personnel employed at the school site level, with the exception of the site administrator.
  • Student and certificated personnel employee discipline services at the school site level.

Coursework and course-embedded fieldwork experiences in partnership school districts are based on standards adopted by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC): California Administrator Performance Expectations (CAPEs) and California Administrator Content Expectations (CACEs).

M.A. Higher Education Administration and Leadership

Program Description. The Department of Educational Leadership offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration and Leadership. The program prepares individuals interested in careers in higher education settings and agencies. The mission of the Higher Education Administration and Leadership (HEAL) program is to develop ethical leaders whose practice relies on critical thinking and is informed by research and theory to work in colleges, universities, and other educational agencies as a means of advancing social justice and diversity.

HEAL attracts individuals interested in careers in colleges, universities, and other related educational settings. During a 30-unit, four-semester, program of study, HEAL students delve into a curriculum that examines policies, practices, theories, and current issues related to the post-secondary education pipeline. Students acquire valuable analytical skills while developing their philosophies in social justice and leadership. The HEAL curriculum and the relationships with faculty lead to learning experiences that offer students the essential knowledge and skills required for exemplary practice in a variety of roles in higher education and student affairs.
