Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements
The Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies requires a minimum of 120 units. This includes courses specific to the major, a culminating assignment to fulfill the Senior Project requirement, General Education courses, electives, and other university requirements. Students seeking a bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies must be in good standing with the university and must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75. Before enrolling in upper-division courses, students must complete designated lower-division courses. CR/NC grading is not permitted in the Latin American Studies major.
The B.A. in Latin American Studies is an interdisciplinary degree designed to give students an understanding of the region from diverse disciplines and perspectives. Students are strongly encouraged to spend a semester abroad studying in Latin America, Spain, or Portugal.
The B.A. in Latin American Studies prepares students for graduate studies or employment in government services or international organizations. It also provides a strong foundation for students who wish to teach at the secondary school level, at a two-year college, or at the university level. Students are also prepared for careers in the private sector with an emphasis on international business or a specialized focus on Latin America.
