French and Francophone Studies Minor Requirements
The French and Francophone Studies minor introduces students to the French language and the diverse cultures of the Francophone world through upper-division courses taught in English. Emphasizing literature, film, history, and the arts, the program fosters cross-cultural understanding and cultural competence while exploring the social, political, and historical forces that shape France and other Francophone countries. Designed for broad accessibility, the minor allows students to engage deeply with Francophone cultures without requiring full proficiency in French.

Lower-Division Courses (6-9 units):
Students take 6-9 units of lower division French language classes. Upper-Division Courses (9-12 units):
Students take 9-12 units of upper division so that when combined with the lower division, the total units are 18 units for the minor. At least 3 (three) of the upper division courses must be French courses, taught in English. One course can be taken outside of the French program from the approved list of electives. Total: 18 Units
Note: The minors also require a 2.0 GPA and 6 upper-division units in residence. |
