The Department of Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special Education
Program Description
The fully online synchronous Multilingual and Multicultural Education option of the Master of Arts in Education program is designed to develop expertise in educators who can provide equitable learning environments through their instruction and leadership. The program’s mission is to provide master’s degree candidates with a foundation in research, curriculum, and leadership in order to promote equity in schools serving linguistically and culturally diverse learners. In this fully online synchronous program, master candidates will be working with students who are not only English learners, but also students who have distinct linguistic and cultural needs.
Career Opportunities
An MME degree empowers graduates to (1) Promote equity, inclusion, and access for linguistically and culturally diverse learners, (2) Become leaders in bilingual, multicultural, or global education initiatives, and (3) Serve as change agents who advance social justice through education and language advocacy.
Some career paths may include being an advocate/outreach coordinator, ELD specialist, curriculum developer, education policy analyst, grant writer/researcher, district, county, and state program coordinator or directors, consultant, community & nonprofit work, corporate diversity and inclusion specialist, academic advisor, college instructor, and doctoral candidate.
Admission Requirements
In addition to the university admission requirements, admission to the M.A. in Education option Multilingual/Multicultural Education requires:
- a minimum 2.75 GPA,
- a statement of purpose, and
- three letters of recommendation.
