Lyles College of Engineering
The Pre-engineering Major prepares students for entry into the following majors: Civil Engineering (CE), Computer Engineering (Comp E), Electrical Engineering (EE), and Mechanical Engineering (ME). All first year students pursuing one of these engineering degrees are considered classified as Pre-Engineering until they fulfill the requirements of the Pre-Engineering program. To continue into one of these engineering majors and take 100-level courses in that program, Pre-Engineering students must complete the following requirements within two years of entering the Pre-Engineering program (see Advising Note 1)

A. Complete the Required Courses with a C or better (28 units)

B. Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.25
C. Submit a request to declare an engineering major
Advising Notes
- Students with extenuating circumstances may petition for an extension of the two year time limit.
- First year Pre-Engineering students will be enrolled in the required Pre-engineering courses. First year students who wish to take more than 14 units per semester may choose to self-enroll in additional courses. Advisors will work with Pre-engineering students who already have credit for one or more required courses to find appropriate alternative courses.
- Students may request to substitute BIOL 1A (all majors) or BIOL 11 or BIOL 12 (except Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering).
- Students may request to substitute CHEM 1A (Mechanical Engineering only).
- Students may request to substitute PHIL 1 , PHIL 2 , or PHIL 10 (except Mechanical Engineering).
- All Pre-engineering students must consult with their Academic Advisor each semester.
