Other Degree Requirements


In addition to the major program requirements, every student must also complete the University’s baccalaureate degree requirements such as:

  • American Government and Institutions (PLSI 2 )
  • General Education Requirements (48 units)
  • Multicultural and International (MI)
  • Upper-division Writing
  • Sufficient Elective Units to Meet Required Total Units (varies); it is recommended that units in this area be utilized to complete a second major or minor.

*General Education, MI, and Upper-division Writing courses can be double counted with major requirements. These coures include BIOL 1A  (Area B2),  EES 1  (Area B1), MATH 75  (Area B4), EES 102S  (Area IB), EES 115S  (Area ID), and EES 104W .  See advisor for details.

Advising Notes:


  1. G.E. Foundation B4 is a prerequisite except for declared college of science and math major students.
  2. PSYCH 42 is a prerequisite for BIOL 101 .
  3. BIOL 101  is a prerequisite for BIOL 170 -BIOL 172 .
  4. Elective units may be used toward a double major or minor (see double major or departmental minor). Consult the appropriate department chair, program coordinator, or faculty advisor for further information.
  5. Students planning to pursue graduate study are strongly encouraged to take MATH 76  or EES 177  or EES 180
