In addition to the major program requirements, every student must also complete the University’s baccalaureate degree requirements such as:
- American Government and Institutions (PLSI 2 )
- General Education Requirements (48 units)
- Multicultural and International (MI) - Enology majors are exempt from the MI requirement
- Upper-division Writing
- Sufficient Elective Units to Meet Required Total Units (varies); it is recommended that units in this area be utilized to complete a second major or minor.

*General Education, MI, and Upper-division Writing courses can be double counted with major requirements. These courses include CHEM 3A (Area B1), BIOL 11 (Area B2), MATH 11 (Area B4), and AGBS 1 (Area D2). See advisor for details.
Advising Notes
- Students must take either CHEM 3A or CHEM 1A , CHEM 1AL , CHEM 1B and CHEM 1BL to meet the prerequisite requirements for other chemistry courses required within the degree.
- During the Add/Drop period of their first semester, students are required to attend a department undergraduate orientation session. Alternatively, they are required to meet with the department chair. In either case, they will be assisted in selecting an appropriate faculty advisor.
- Students meet with their academic advisors prior to registration each fall semester.
- General Education courses designated as required by the department are prerequisites to many courses in the program of study.
- Upper-division G.E. courses (i.e., 100-level course) should not be attempted prior to the semester in which 60 units toward the degree have been completed.
- Students can take PLANT 110W and pass with a grade of C or higher to meet the Upper-Division Writing Requirement.
- Viticulture students are encouraged to become certified crop scientists/specialists and pest control advisors (PCAs). Students should consult their faculty advisor for additional requirements for certification.
- All courses listed under the major and additional requirements require a grade of C or better. CR/NC grading is not permitted for courses included in the major, except for ENOL 194I .
