Global Literacies in Popular Culture, Certificate of Special Study

This certificate addresses a growing need for popular culture literacy, given the developing importance of social media and the increasing presence of forms of popular culture in social institutions, including business and academe. Students will have the opportunity to develop a multicultural understanding of various forms of pop culture, a skill set for analyzing pop culture and its social impacts, and critiquing the efficacy of pop culture artifacts with respect to changing or maintaining cultural norms. This certificate will be of benefit to students pursuing careers in business, social media, advertising, marketing, film and other forms of media.
