Mission and Vision
The mission of the Department of Advanced Studies in Education is the preparation and continuing education of PreK-12 educators, particularly classroom teachers. Coursework and field experiences are designed to prepare teachers who are reflective thinkers, problem solvers, and decision makers to meet the challenges of teaching in a rapidly changing world characterized by social, economic, and cultural/linguistic diversity, as well as to become educational specialists and leaders through our graduate and advanced certificate programs.

For credential candidates, supervised field experiences combined with instructional planning and evaluation opportunities provide the foundation for productive and culturally-responsive teaching.
