The purpose of the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership is to enhance the talents and skills of individuals who plan to devote their lives to the implementation of educational practices informed by research. Offered by California State University, Fresno, the Ed.D. program provides students with a broad view of educational problems and a strong background in social science theory. In addition, the program prepares students to conduct and interpret inquiries on which sound educational policy and practice can be anchored.

Students in the program benefit from the teaching and research expertise of established scholars and practitioners. The Ed.D. program is interdisciplinary drawing from faculty from a number of academic disciplines and expert practitioners from P-12 school districts, community colleges, and universities.

All courses are taught on the Fresno State campus during the late afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends to accommodate full-time working professionals.

Ed.D. Educational Leadership Program Description. Fresno State’s doctoral program in educational leadership supports the CSU system-wide effort to offer professional practice doctoral programs in Educational Leadership. Fresno State’s program is designed to support working professionals poised for leadership in P12 schools and districts or community colleges. The 60-unit program of study include 48 units of coursework and 12 units of dissertation and is designed to be completed in three years of full-time study leading candidates to earn a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree.

The program’s cohort-based model offers two delivery format options for students: Face-to-Face and Online. Both delivery format options enable students to focus on either P12 Educational Leadership or Community College/Higher Education Leadership.
