Department Mission

The Department of Educational Leadership develops scholar-practitioners and prepares credible and relevant leaders in education committed to advancing equity and excellence in educational leadership for P-12 and higher education throughout the Central Valley.

M.A. Educational Leadership and Administration

Program Description. The Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration is an integrated degree and credential program for students pursuing a Master of Arts and a California Preliminary Administrative Services Credential.  The integrated master’s degree and credential program is a 31-semester unit program of study.  Graduates earning the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential are authorized to serve in administrative roles in California P-12 public schools such as principal, vice-principal, program director, and any related administrative assignment at all school levels.  The program would be offered through an 18-month cohort delivery model with an intern option as part of the cohort model for eligible students.  All cohorts are in partnership with school districts throughout the Central Valley.  All credential coursework and field experiences are based on standards adopted by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC): California Administrator Performance Expectations (CAPEs) and California Administrator Content Expectations (CACEs). 

M.A. Higher Education Administration and Leadership

Program Description. The Department of Educational Leadership offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration and Leadership. The program prepares individuals interested in careers in higher education settings and agencies. The mission of the Higher Education Administration and Leadership (HEAL) program is to develop ethical leaders whose practice relies on critical thinking and is informed by research and theory to work in colleges, universities, and other educational agencies as a means of advancing social justice and diversity.

HEAL attracts individuals interested in careers in colleges, universities, and other related educational settings. During a 30-unit, four-semester, program of study, HEAL students delve into a curriculum that examines policies, practices, theories, and current issues related to the post-secondary education pipeline. Students acquire valuable analytical skills while developing their philosophies in social justice and leadership. The HEAL curriculum and the relationships with faculty lead to learning experiences that offer students the essential knowledge and skills required for exemplary practice in a variety of roles in higher education and student affairs.
