HUM 128 - Mexico & Japan: Timeless Cultural Exchange




Prerequisite: GE Areas 1A, 1B, 1C, 2 (Foundation) and Area 4 (formerly GE Area D)
(HUM 128 same as ASAM 128) This course explores the historical and contemporary artistic, social, and cultural exchanges between Japan and Mexico. From early trade routes and migration to modern artistic collaborations and mediatic relationships. Students will analyze how these two distinct cultures have influenced each other through visual arts, literature, cinema, architecture, and popular culture. Topics include the impact of Japanese immigration on Mexican society, the artistic connections between ukiyo-e and Mexican printmaking, and the integration of Mexican subjects into Japanese media, among others.
