ARTH 141S - Arts of East Asia and the South Seas
Prerequisite: GE Areas 1A, 1B, 1C, 2 (Foundation) and Area 4 (formerly GE Area D) A comprehensive survey of art forms and their social roles in East Asia, such as China, Korea, Japan, and its adjacent maritime areas to the south, from prehistory to the present. The relationships between art, material culture, nature, landscape, the environment, and ideologies, such as ancestor worship, shamanism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Service-Learning course.
