MUSIC 40 - Theory and Literature I

Corequisite: MUSIC 9  
Fundamentals of music: notation, scales, intervals, keys, triads, concepts of mode and meter, principles of melody writing, and species counterpoint in two voices. Analysis of appropriate examples from musical literature. Use of music notation software. Introduction to global music systems.
